Multiple Sclerosis Drugs Market - Global Analysis and Industry Trends from 2018

Multiple sclerosis is a progressive, immune-mediated, neurodegenerative disorder that can also prove to be fatal. The rising incidence of multiple sclerosis around the globe and strong R&D efforts by leading players and government organizations have significantly boosted the global multiple sclerosis drugs market.

Q. What is the current scenario of multiple sclerosis around the world?

A. According to research conducted by the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America, an estimated 2 to 2.5 million people are affected by multiple sclerosis around the globe. While the disease affects people between the age of 20 and 50, women are two or three times more likely to be affected by MS than men. A 2008 assessment of multiple sclerosis by the World Health Organization reveals that the prevalence of the condition is greatest in Europe, followed by the Eastern Mediterranean, and North America. People in high-income countries are more likely to be affected by the neurological disease; however, the WHO study emphasizes that multiple sclerosis is a global disease and not one solely of the more developed “western” countries.

Q. How are major breakthroughs in the overall multiple sclerosis market affecting the demand for multiple sclerosis drugs?

A. The overall market for multiple sclerosis is no doubt witnessing some groundbreaking developments in recent years. In June 2016, scientists in Canada developed a radical therapy that has shown complete long-term remission from multiple sclerosis. This trial is the first in the world to halt the progression of this debilitating disease and even reverse its symptoms. The new therapy is known as immunoablation and autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (IAHSCT) and involves the use of chemotherapy to completely eradicate the damaged immune system and reboot it by transfusing bone marrow cells. Some participants of the clinical trial were able to return to school, work, get married and have children, and regain the ability to drive.

Although this trial has the potential to considerably change the course of the global multiple sclerosis market, developments such as these act as a deterrent to the multiple sclerosis drugs market. The demand for drugs have been taking a hit owing to an increasing number of MS patients opting for surgical treatments rather than drugs.

Q. How is the progress of the multiple sclerosis drugs market dependent on the success or failure of major players?

A. Biogen Inc. is one of the leading companies in the global multiple sclerosis drugs market. Its performance and contribution over the years in the form of innovative and high-efficacy drugs and a strong pipeline has significantly driven the market. However, even major players such as Biogen can cause a sudden dip in the multiple sclerosis drugs market. Biogen’s experimental drug for multiple sclerosis – called opicinumab – was one of the most awaited drugs for the year and patients as well as healthcare providers were hopeful of the drug’s ability to change the course of multiple sclerosis. However, the drug failed in a mid-stage trial, missing the main as well as secondary goals for the treatment of the neurological disease. Most of Biogen’s revenue comes from MS drugs and this failure is a major setback for the company. This is also means a hitch in the progress of the global multiple sclerosis drugs market.

Sperm Bank Market - Global Industry Analysis, Size, Share, Growth, Trends, and Forecast 2016 - 2024

Global Sperm Bank Market: Overview and Dynamics

The global market for sperm banks has been witnessing increasing growth since the last few recent years, primarily owing to the surge in social acceptance and awareness among the general population. Rise in the number of young sperm donors, legalization of and increase in same-sex marriages, various technological advancements in the field of assistive reproduction, and strong support on the part of governments toward donor offspring and sperm donors are also projected to boost the sperm bank market. However, this market continues to be challenged by the negative mindset toward sperm donation, high cost of artificial insemination and assistive reproduction, and several government regulations in developing and underdeveloped countries.

Sperm donors can be of several types: Directed donor, client donor, anonymous donor, and known donor. Sperm banks offer a range of services such as sperm storage, genetic consultation, sperm donations, and semen analysis for a variety of end users such as pre-vasectomy patients, police officers, high-impact athletes, cancer patients, military personnel, firefighters, and transgender people.

The report on the global sperm bank market offers clients an in-depth assessment of the emergence, popularity, need, and forecast of sperm banks across the globe. Various factors driving the demand for sperm banks, those that act as impediments to the market growth, and several policies and laws impacting sperm donation as a service have been carefully studied in the report. The research also highlights the present status of the vendor landscape, identifying the major players competing at a global level and evaluating their performance over the years.

Global Sperm Bank Market: Region-wise Outlook

The global sperm bank market has been segmented on the basis of geography into North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Rest of the World. Considering that North America has the highest number of sperm banks with the highest number of licensed labs, this regional market for sperm banks is one of the largest in the world. However, the high unmet need is presently the only lucrative attraction for market players in the region, since there is a severe shortage of sperm donors as compared to the increasing demand. Countries such as the U.K. have been investing in new and innovative advertising plans to increase awareness among the male population in the country and encourage them to actively participate in sperm donation.

The sperm bank market in Asia Pacific holds immense opportunities owing to a high rate of infertility and miscarriages in the region. In China, For instance, the alarming levels of air pollution in China have caused a decrease in sperm quality, count, and motility, thereby driving the demand for sperm donors and sperm banks.

Global Sperm Bank Market: Vendor Landscape Assessment

The vendor landscape of the global sperm bank is consolidated to an extent, considering very few large players control a majority of the overall sperm bank market. New England Cryogenic Center Inc., Cryos International Sperm Bank, FairFax Cryobank, and Androcryos are currently the most prominent and dominant companies operating in the global sperm bank market. Orlando, a Florida-based Cyros International Sperm Bank, is presently one of the largest sperm banks in the world. With an additional base set up in Mumbai, India in 2008, Cryos has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as well as the Indian Council of Medical Research. Recognizing the immense potential that the sperm bank market possesses, an increasing number of players have been undergoing continuous upgrade to withstand the competition presented by industry giants.

The report offers a comprehensive evaluation of the market. It does so via in-depth qualitative insights, historical data, and verifiable projections about market size. The projections featured in the report have been derived using proven research methodologies and assumptions. By doing so, the research report serves as a repository of analysis and information for every facet of the market, including but not limited to: Regional markets, technology, types, and applications.

Gonorrhea Diagnostics Market - Global Industry Analysis and Forecast 2023

Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae and can affect both genders. It is a common infection, especially among young people aged between 15 years to 24 years. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), gonorrhea is the second most commonly reported disease in the United States affecting approximately 800,000 people each year. In the United Kingdom, about 28,000 cases of gonorrhea are reported each year. Symptoms of gonorrhea in men encompass painful urination, swelling of testicles and pus discharge. In women, symptoms comprise excessive vaginal discharge, painful urination and abdominal pain. Complications include ectopic pregnancy, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) and Epididymitis. The incubation period for this disease also varies between men and women. In men, the symptoms occur between 2 to 14 days whereas in women it takes 7 days to 21 days to show symptoms. Astonishingly, about 50% of women have no symptoms in the early stage and during pregnancy it may infect the fetus during delivery.

Diagnostic tests for gonorrhea include diagnostic imaging, flow cytometry, gel microdroplets, chromatography, artificial intelligence, liposomes, differential light scattering (DLS), molecular diagnostics and monoclonal antibodies test. Amongst these tests, molecular diagnostics is the most commonly employed diagnostic test. Molecular diagnostic tests include Nucleic Acid Amplification Tests (NAAT) that are highly sensitive for urine and swab tests, and are U.S. FDA approved. Over the years, there has been a substantial increase in the number of patients suffering from gonorrhea. Changing lifestyle and involvement of multiple sex partners has substantially boosted the market for gonorrhea diagnostics. In last few years, both Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) have reported instances of antibiotic resistant strains in patients. This further exaggerates the demand for early diagnostic kits or tests on a global scale. However inadequate infrastructure, limited trained laboratory personnel and lack of awareness in developing countries are among the major restraints to the global gonorrhea diagnostics market.

Geographically, the market is majorly driven by developed economic regions such as North America and Europe owing to presence of large number of point of care tests and high awareness among people with respect to sexually transmitted diseases. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Service recommend pelvic examination on an annual basis which also increases the growth prospects of this market. In 2013, the total number of new cases of gonorrhea diagnosed in genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinics in England was 29,291. This represented an increase of 15% compared to those diagnosed in 2012. However, in developing parts lack of appropriate knowledge and infrastructure has limited the growth prospects. Despite that, owing to increasing disposable incomes and changing lifestyles in developing regions, the market for gonorrhea is expected to have the fastest growth in Asia Pacific and Rest of the World regions. Recently in 2014, a new strain of gonorrhea known as A8806 was reported in Australia which is also multi-drug resistant. Such instances have raised concerns among researchers and government agencies owing to which, number of clinical trials in Asia Pacific region has drastically increased which will eventually boost the demand for diagnostic tests and kits.

Some of the key players operating the global gonorrhea diagnostics market include Siemens AG, Tosoh Corporation, PerkinElmer, Inc., Abbott Laboratories, Beckman Coulter Inc., Ortho Clinical Diagnostics, F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG, bioMérieux and others.

Global Peptide Therapeutics Market to be Fueled by Increasing Prevalence of Cancer and Diabetes

According to a new market study released by Transparency Market Research (TMR), the global peptide therapeutics market will be valued at US$23.7 bn by 2020, increasing from its 2013 valuation of US$18.9 bn. If the projected figure hold true, the market will rise at a moderate 2.8% CAGR from 2014 to 2020. The report is titled “Peptide Therapeutics Market – Global Industry Analysis, Size, Share, Growth, Trends and Forecast 2014 – 2020” and is available for sale on the company website.
Browse the full  Peptide Therapeutics Market (by Applications, by Route of Administration, and by Marketing Status) – Global Industry Analysis, Size, Share, Growth, Trends and Forecast 2014 – 2020 report at http://www.transparencymarketresearch.com/peptide-therapeutics-market.html
Therapeutic peptides have received acceptance in the treatment of several diseases such as metabolic disorders, cancer, nervous system disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, acromegaly, hematological disorders, cardiovascular disorders, infections, and respiratory disorders, among others. Due to the efficacy of peptides for the treatment of a large number of medical conditions, further research and development has resulted in a rich pipeline of novel peptides that deliver better therapeutic effects.
Though animal sources such as venom constitute the major source for peptide research, microbial sources are also being examined for their efficacy for treatment of various medical conditions. The growing variety of sources as well as applications of peptide therapeutics is boosting growth prospects of the global peptide therapeutics market. However, despite extensive research, oral administering of therapeutic peptides still remains a challenge for researchers, which is indirectly hampering the peptide therapeutics market. Unfavorable physiological conditions such as the presence of proteolytic enzymes and acidic pH pose a challenge for oral administering of peptide therapeutics. Moreover, low intestinal penetrability of peptides also adds to the low bioavailability of these substances.
Lately, a strong trend has been observed in the peptide therapeutics market: whilst new peptide therapeutic drugs receive regulatory permission, several older peptide therapeutic drugs will go off-patent during the forecast period. In addition, difficulties associated with imitating the precise effects of biologics are a major reason for generic drug manufacturers to face drug approval issues. Thus, generic peptide therapeutic drugs are priced only 70-80% as much as branded peptide therapeutics. Due to this price gap, high demand for generic versions is expected to help the peptide therapeutics market overcome its restraints.
Presently, the generic peptide therapeutic leuprolide is retailed under the brand names Eligard, Lupron, and Enantone, of which Lupron and Enantone constitute sales over US$800 mn across the world. On the competitive front, currently, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., Novo Nordisk, and Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. collectively account for more than 50% of the global peptide therapeutics market. However, the patent expiration of Copaxone in 2014 and Velcade in 2017 will lead to launch of their generic alternatives. Some other prominent players in the global peptide therapeutics market are AstraZeneca plc, Eli Lilly & Co., Merck & Co., Novartis International, and AbbVie Inc.

Lyophilization For Pharmaceuticals Market Equipment And Services 2013 - 2019

Lyophilization also called as freeze drying is a process of dehydration of samples, commonly used to preserve perishable substances. In pharmaceutical industries, it is used to concentrate and stabilize products into powder form. The process consists of four stages- lyophilization pretreatment, freezing the compound, primary drying process, secondary drying. Pretreating the products includes concentrating the product and formulation to increase the surface area. Once the product is pretreated, it is frozen using methanol or liquid nitrogen. At this stage, the compound is cooled below its triple point which is the lowest temperature at which the vapor, liquid and solid state co-exist. In the next stage of primary drying, the pressure is reduced so that water in the compound sublimates. In the last stage, the unfrozen water molecules are removed by increasing the temperature to near 0 degrees and lowering pressure for desorption.

Lyophilization is an effective preservation process and stabilization of compounds such as proteins, peptides, vaccines, blood fractions, enzymes, microbes, nutraceuticals and other biopharmaceutical products. They help in extending the shelf life while maintaining the functionality and integrity of the biomolecules. Due to reduction of storage space and weight, they also make the handling easier and avoid the need of cold storage.

Lyophilization market can be segmented based on product type as follows:

Lyophilization units
  • Manifold freeze dryer
  • Rotary freeze dryer

Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections are caused due to Staphylococcus aureus bacterium which infects different parts of the body. These infections are difficult to treat due to high degree of resistance of these pathogens to the most commonly used antibiotics such as methicillin, amoxicillin, penicillin and oxacillin. The bacterium infects different parts of the body namely, skin, surgical wounds, blood streams, lungs, IV or other sites where the tubes such as catheters enter the body or the urinary tract and cause infection which can be life threatening.

MRSA infection is known to spread by casual contact or through contaminated objects called community associated MRSA (CA MRSA). It may also be acquired in hospitals or health care settings - healthcare associated MRSA (HA MRSA) which is the most common form of MRSA infection. Community associated methicillin resistant S. aureus (CA-MRSA) infections are different from healthcare associated methicillin resistant S. aureus (HA-MRSA) considering their epidemiology and the characteristics of the strains which causes the infection. Overuse of antibiotics and use of potent drugs for less serious infections may also cause development of MRSA. The symptoms of infection depend on the site of infection and it can be diagnosed by laboratory testing.

One of the major drivers contributing to the market growth for MRSA drugs is increase in the prevalence of MRSA infections. In addition, growth in the government and non-government awareness programs has also become a key factor in improving the market growth. However, overcoming the tendency of pathogen for developing resistance to multi-drugs and increase in competition between the generic market players could impose a challenge to the market growth.

MRSA can be usually treated by antibiotics such as bactrim and vancomycin though the pathogen has started developing resistance for these drugs too owing to its constant adapting power to newly developed antibiotics. Other options for the treatment of MRSA infection are generics such as clindamycin and minocycline, and prime brand-names such as Tygacil, Cubicin, Zyvox, and Synercid. Some of these antibiotics are only available intravenously. The most effective way of controlling the spread of MRSA is practicing basic hygiene such as use of disposable gloves, washing hands before making direct contact with patients as well as proper wound care.

Geographically, North America leads this market and is followed by Europe. However, increase in the development of healthcare infrastructure in emerging economies forecasts growth in demand for MRSA drugs in Asia-Pacific and other parts of the world. Some of the major players in this market include Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited, Merck & Co., Inc, AstraZeneca PLC, GlaxoSmithKline PLC, Pfizer, Inc., Cubist Pharmaceuticals, Inc., ViroPharma, Inc., Forest Laboratories, Inc., and Theravance, Inc.

Autism Spectrum Disorder Treatment Market - Global Industry Analysis, Size, Share, Growth, Trends And Forecast 2013 - 2019

Pharmaceuticals copy
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a group of multifaceted neurodevelopment disabilities characterized by social, behavioral and communication challenges. This condition is characterized by communication difficulties, social impairment and repetitive and stereotyped behavioral patterns. It is a spectrum condition because while all people affected with autism share some similar difficulties, the level of medical condition affects them in different ways. Symptoms of ASD vary widely and it may sometimes go unrecognized especially in mildly affected children. Early indicators include loss of language or social skills, lack of response, poor eye contact, no single words or two-word phrases by the age of 2 years. If left unrecognized by the age of 3 years, one may recognize later through impaired ability to make friends, stereotyped or unusual use of language, inability to initiate or withstand a conversation with others; varying specific routines or rituals and impairment or absence of imaginative and social interactions.
Presently, there are no medications that can treat ASD or its core symptoms. It is an underserved market with only two FDA approved drugs Abilify (aripiprazole) and risperidone. These drugs belong to the anti-psychotics therapeutic class, but are approved for the treatment of irritability associated with autistic disorder. Besides, certain other classes of drugs such as antidepressants, anticonvulsants and stimulants are prescribed off-label for reducing autism related neurological challenges.
Patent expiration of Abilify will lead to decline in the market growth which is expected to offset by new introductions which may improve the therapeutic benefits. The growth of this market is primarily attributed to the increasing prevalence of ASD. According to CDC, average prevalence of ASD in Asia, Europe and North America is 1%. Further, the estimates state that the prevalence rate has risen form 1 in 150 children in 2000 to 1 in 68 children in 2010.
Abilify is a product of Bristol-Myers Squibb and Otsuka Holdings Co., Ltd. While, risperidone is a generic market with many key players such as Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., Actavis, Inc., Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited.
